The Pivot
By now, we’ve all experienced this — when the process and product need to change midstream.
Pictured above is the result of the twists and turns taken while mapping out Taste magazine’s holiday issue. Our feature shoots were suddenly scrapped due to changes in CDC recommendations and COVID-19 work protocol. The entertaining theme morphed into ways to pull off virtual parties resulting in “Eat, Drink, & Be Healthy,” a layout populated with whimsical shapes and illustrations. For “Gifts from the Stars,” we focused on celebrity pictures instead of product shots, going for a National Enquirer vibe. With all else, we filled in with stock. We did shoot some original photography for the magazine, but only the cover and two photos featured in “How Sweet it Is” survived.
Nostalgia
A recent viewing of a documentary on the making of “Dirty Dancing” had me reminiscing about this shoot. Come on, admit it. You have a soft spot for that movie too.
Taken at a small Poconos Resort, these photos were shot for Philadelphia Wedding by Karen Pearson and styled by Lauren Kozakiewicz. The location was one of my favorites as it was packed with vintage charm. When not in use as a prop, I availed myself of that red Schwinn to pedal around the lake and scout which quaint cabin we wanted to photograph next. We had the time of our lives making these pictures. (Sorry. Had to quote something from the film!)
